For the first time in the West Town/Ukrainian Community, Smith Park hosted the Midnight Circus in the Park on September 27 and 28, 2014.
David Ramos president of the Smith Park Advisoy Council said he was delighted and happy to partner up with Commercial Park. This was a great opportunity to bring the entire West Town community under one huge tent. We had an opportunity to raise funds for our park thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Jenkins founder of the Midnight Circus with the support of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Park District Superintendent Mike Kelly. I’ve been president for 9 months, when I succeeded Mr. Erich Muellner, I stated I wanted to build on Erich vision and bring additional programs and government services to the park. Thus far, we added additional movies in the park, brought in the Secretary of State Mobile Unit to renew Drivers Licenses and State ID’s, the Circus and we are waiting for the approval of the Farmers Market, said Ramos
Ramos contributes the success to his advisory council (Nani Almendarez Vice President, Dave Hunt Treasurer and Ellen Ernst Secretary) and to Ronda Locke president of Commercial Park, Alderman Joe Moreno, 1st Ward, Alderman Roberto Maldonado, 26th Ward, regional Park Managers Art Jackson and Cynthia Rosario, Park Supervisors Travis Bogle and Shandrel Young. Im looking forward to building relationships with everyone across the board to recognize Smith Park as a beautiful place to visit and raise a family.
