The Smith Park Advisory Council and the Smith Park Neighborhood Alliance in conjunction with the American Legion Post – Paul Revere 623 will hold the Annual Gathering and Wreath Ceremony at the Park.
Every year, members of the community come together to honor the soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for America’s Freedom.
The Annual Wreath Laying will be conducted at the World War II Army Tank at the Park, located at 2526 West Grand Ave.
We are asking for everyone’s support by coming out to the park on Monday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 am, as we raise the American Flag for Americas’ Heroes’.
We have honored our fallen and present day soldiers with the Annual Wreath, said former Commander Byron Watson of the American Legion Post – Paul Revere 623.
A few years ago, president Ramos and I had a vision to have a parade on Chicago Ave. to Smith Park. It was very successful event and a lot of fun.
We had many elected officials who marched with us in the rain. It would be great to do it again, but every year we are always up again the down town parade.
There is a lot of work, time and planning that goes into an event like this. However, SPAC president David Ramos had a vision and he called upon Nani Almendarez, Kim Shepherd, Kathy Smith, the Ukrainian Congress Committee, the Chicago Police Department and others.
We truly appreciate all the support the Advisory Council and the Neighborhood Alliance gives to the American Legion Post, we could not be successful and do this event without their support and the entire community, said Watson.
