Smith Park Chicago: The Smith Park Advisory Council Appreciation Day was held this past Saturday, October 8th at 3 p.m.
This event was to thank the community, the volunteers, and the supporters. This was the first time an Advisory Council at Smith Park had ever done this, said Frank Bogatitus, a Chicago Park District Attendant.
Frank has been a fixture of Smith Park and has worked for the Chicago Park District for over 20 years, 18 of those years being assigned to Smith Park. Frank also stated the event was FREE to everyone who wanted to attend with great music by Dr. Feelgood and the ’80s and DJ Mickey Mixin Mickey Oliver.
A Chicago fire Department Truck, and Chicago Police Horses, and a Bouncing House will be at the park for all the children.
David Ramos, president of Smith Park Advisory Council since 2013, stated he wanted to do something special and to give back to the community and to the supporters who call Smith Park their home park.
We have family members from across the City of Chicago that come to Smith Park. Many families take part of the Sports Program or the Summer Camp Programs, but don’t live in the community.
People tell me all the time that they drive down Grand Ave. and see the outdoor swimming pool, the tennis courts, baseball diamonds, and the iconic World War II Army Tank, said Ramos.
Ramos also stated it was his goal as president to have more educational programs for the children and senior citizens.
The advisory council helped raise funs to pay for two 60 inch TV’s, a Kiln Machine for the Ceramic House, an Indoor/outdoor movie screen to host Movie’s in the Park, two sound systems, hotdog warmer for the Smith Park Teen Club, equipment for Halloween.
The council also assisted with obtaining funs from Alderman Roberto Maldonado, 26th Ward to repaint the World War II Army Tank, hosted the first time ever Memorial Day Parade on Chicago Ave. and they have successfully lobbied the Chicago Park District for new ADA Handicap Doors for the park, repairing and repainting the outdoor swimming pool.
The appreciation day was supported by Sponsored by Billy Goats Tavern, Robert Lozins, Attorney Christopher C. Syregelas, Sam Martorina and family, IPSA Consultants, Bert’s Car Wash Jonathan Aguilar, and
